Like shoes and Investments!!!
There is a saying - A woman cannot have enough shoes!
While walking to my office today in the morning I had a realization- how the happenings and events in our lives are intertwined with each other and the question of choice is of utmost importance for reaping long term benefits.
I struggle most of the days to reach office on time (we all know the tussle between the bed and our mind every morning before we get up) and hence time always slips in between the dilemma (to get up or to sleep a few minutes more). Now while running towards my destination I understood the value of choosing the right pair of comfortable shoes over the sleek and sexy stilettos that my mind always desires for. Hence the usefulness of the right choice is undeniable in every aspect of our lives.
Let me explain a bit further. The shoe that was accompanying my feet during my journey to the office is comfortable enough but I wear it with the insole (I did not get my exact size and the shoe felt too comfortable). However, today unfortunately that insole refused to support my feet and was constantly getting displaced from its location and hence my most comfortable shoe became my cause of tremendous unpleasantness.
It is after this experience I understood something- that choosing the right and perfect size of shoes is as risky and unpredictable as investing in Mutual funds and share markets.
My friends explained to me in simple terms how the mutual fund investments work. People choose to invest their money according to their risk profile between equity funds, sectoral funds, and in balance funds.
Similarly, while buying shoes at the store we tend and try to choose the best and least risky pair among a wide variety of designs. As women, we are blessed and spoilt for choices regarding shoes. So many different designs and types of shoes are there in the market like stilettos, ballerina, flip flops, sneakers, peep toes boots and the list continues with further subdivisions. Example of the boots, I searched in the net typing just two words 'ladies boots' and at least a dozen different variety flashed on the screen each exhibiting spectacular design and style like to name a few- Ankle boots, Chukka boots, Mid-calf boots, Over knee boots, Riding boots, Bootie, High heel boots, Cowgirl boots, etc. The list continues just under one main genre -'Ladies boots'. Phew!! So many choices. Amidst all the varieties choosing the perfect pair of shoes becomes nearly impossible. Wait! Does the adjective perfect fit for any shoe? I guess not. Nothing is perfect in the world as the saying goes. Some designs like the high heels, for example, will look extremely gorgeous but if you think of wearing them regularly and for a longer period of time your feet will definitely wage a war against you. The fully comfortable body shoes will not look as elegant as our heart's desire but will give loving support to the feet. It all depends on our choices. What we choose- style or comfort? Also the colour of the shoe and how well it goes with our wardrobe.
Just like shoes, there are so many types of mutual funds that people can invest in the market and it all depends on the investment appetite and risk-taking ability of the investor.
Quoting the famous tag line-" Mutual fund investments are subjected to market risks, please read the offer document carefully before investing" this can be paralleled with another line- " Investment in a fitted pair of shoes is subject to your health risk please try on various types carefully before investing on one".
Investing on risky products which lures us with bigger profits are just like those amazing looking pair of high heeled stilettos which promises us of an elegant and stylish image at the party but may give us severe back pain later.
However, as goes the basic principle of economics- " No risk, no gain" it can be said that not all investments in risky products will give us a headache later some may also prove to be beneficial for us.
Comfortable "Body shoes" are just like the fixed deposits not much attractive at the present but have a promise of benefits in the long run.
Therefore, it all depends on the end of the question of our "Choice". What we choose and how they fit our needs. Just like it’s hard to get a pair of comfortable and sexy looking stilettos in the same way perfect investments with a guaranteed higher return within a short period can be hard to choose from. Hence we have to choose and invest wisely in all aspects of our lives.
Last but not the least it can be said that "Choosing the perfect investment for yourself is as difficult as choosing that pair of shoes that will complement your refined taste and similarly provide utmost comfort and hence a well-guaranteed return.
