Happy Space for a Happy Life!
Happiness is a goal that we all want to achieve. Happiness can be experienced through various measures. Some may find it in shopping, or some may find happiness in travelling (although travelling makes all of us happy)! Some seek happiness with cooking. So, it is safe to say that the definition of happiness is subjective for everyone.
Then what is a happy space? Google defines a happy space as the place where the person feels most alive and doesn’t need the company of the attractive virtual world to seek enjoyment. A happy space can help you to unwind and make you feel at peace. We all know the feeling of being at peace, right?
We feel that our ‘Happy Space’ can be anywhere. It can be a specific area in my house, or any other place. People mostly connect a happy space with a definite space at their home where they can feel relaxed after a hectic day. Some choose their balcony as their happy space while for others it can be their study room or any other big or small space at their home.
We at Piquant Reads, were curious to know about the happy spaces of random people. We got some lovely descriptions. Sharing with our readers some of the pictures of their own happy spaces.
Tuhina is an architect and a mother of three kids, one sweet daughter and two lovely flurry kids. She stays in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai with her family. Describing her ‘Happy Space’, she told Piquant reads that - “During the lockdown, we were all stuck inside our houses. The weather outside looked superb but since I can’t go out for enjoying the same, I thought of and searched a happy space for myself at my home only. My ‘Happy Space’ is my balcony where there is a nice cozy swing. I enjoy sipping my evening tea, reading my favourite book and chatting with my friends over phone, here only. When it rains, I feel the raindrops in my hands, and it is an amazing feeling. My ‘Happy Space’ is my balcony with my swing.
Piyali, an advertising executive living in Kolkata described one corner in her roof as her ‘Happy Space’. She said, “This is one specific corner of my roof where I like to spend some quality time with myself. This time is mine. In the quiet, dark and breezy evenings the time I spend here with myself are very precious to me. It gives me some space and opportunity to recollect myself and I realise my self-worth. I love this corner, my happy space and sitting here I can proudly say, I love my life and I love me”.
Well we loved her space very much.
Rajdeep is an analyst, living in Thane with his wife. We loved the emotion that he has with his ‘Happy Space’. He described it as, “Be it after a hectic day at the office, or a lazy Sunday morning; my balcony serves as a constant reminder of the fact that somethings in life are actually priceless. Just a few moments of staring into the green scape horizon serves as an elixir, taking away much of the stress and tension which are the gifts of modern day’s existence. This balcony is my happy space, my small piece of oasis in the midst of everyday life”. We have to say that we too loved Rajdeep’s balcony view! Green and serene!
Next we spoke with a lovely lady Karabi, who stays in Kolkata with her husband. Her children stay in Mumbai and her ‘Happy Space’ is her home’s drawing room. We loved the way she described the place and for her (unlike others), ‘Happy Space’ is that space where she spends most of her time when her children comes home. (Mothers as we all know!) She described her ‘Happy Space’ as, “My living room/drawing room is my favourite place. Being an old house, the construction of this room is very different from the new age apartments. I especially love the high ceiling that this room has. Along with it the comfortable sofa set, the beautiful vase, the paintings - everything in this room is done with utmost precision and according to my choice. This room reflects, my taste. Here, I entertain my guests and my lovely family. When my children are in Kolkata, we all spend hours in this room chatting and enjoying. My living room is the reminder of my happy life and it has given me wonderful memories that I cherish every day. I feel at peace here, and hence, this is my happy space”.
We are touched by the ways that every contributor of this story described their ‘Happy Spaces’.
Namrata, a banker from Kolkata, has a different kind of ‘Happy Space’. She told us that her gym is her ‘Happy Space’. Her description of her ‘Happy Space’ goes like this - “My gym is my happy place. Here, I push my limits every day and try out new things to discover myself in a new way. It is the place where I feel strong. I take out my frustrations and internal aggression here by punching on the punching bag. Yes. It relieves me of all my stresses and helps me to calm myself. For me, it is not only about physical strength but my mental strength too.” We loved her passion for workouts! Her cute picture is with her gym mates. ( Namrata is the pretty girl in the middle).
Happy Space can be anywhere, and for Tapas, a retired government officer, it is amongst nature. Tapas regularly goes for trekking in the Himalayas. “I have been going for long trekking expeditions in the Himalayan routes for almost two decades now. I find peace and utmost happiness amidst the Himalayas.” But he told us that he has two ‘Happy Spaces’. Let’s read how he describes them - “There are many beautiful places around us where Mother Nature has poured her blessing in abundance. Being a nature lover, all these places, where, I can find at peace with the nature are my happy spaces. To enjoy these heavenly experiences, I walk on foot for days (sometimes 5 to 20 days) to reach that particular destination. I become alive with mother nature in these places. Our Himalaya mountains offer many exquisite and breathtaking beautiful places for nature lovers like me. These virgin places have very few visitors owing to the difficult trek that one has to do to reach these places. Hence, once I reach these places, I enjoy the serene and peaceful ambiance to the fullest. I call each of these trips of mine as my Happy Space trips.” What a wonderful description!
He added that his second ‘Happy Space’ is the bed, where he is sleeping for the last four decades. “After coming back from my trips, when I lay on this bed I feel at home. I plan for my next trip laying here and trying to regain my energy. My bed is the most comfortable space for me in this world. I get up feeling refreshed every day and thank God for the life I have. So, my bed is my second Happy Space”.
Priyata, stays in Thane with her family. She told us, “Staying away from my parents and friends in Kolkata was tough when I first came here after marriage. But as days passed by, I made new friends here. They all love me and help me to make my life interesting. We go out for dinners whenever we all get time! For me, my friends are my ‘Happy Space’.”
(Priyata is the lovely lady wearing purple saree in the first image). What a lovely and interesting thought!
Lastly, we have a gorgeous writer, Sawoni who shared her ‘Happy Space’ with us from Delhi. We loved her short, beautiful description. Sawoni says, “My couch in the nook is my happy space. It is my favourite place, where I often get lost in the oblivion grazing the vastness of life and not relating to the outer world. It is where I enjoy with myself. The only place on earth where I dream with open eyes while sipping my favourite cup of coffee without a care in the world. Yes, my couch is my happy place!”.
We loved knowing about their ‘Happy Spaces’. Now we would like to know more about you guys! Please comment below regarding your happy space!
